This hand-carved cameo is made according to the ancient process of Sardonyx shell carving, which employs a two-layered surface of different colors to allow the carved figure to emerge from the bottom in positive relief. A time-honored and totally unique talisman featuring a butterfly, symbolic of renewal and metamorphosis. The butterfly, with its weightlessness, grace, and magical play of wings, has often been associated to elves, fairies, and a world of fantasy.
